In Abia, Gunmen Shot and killed a recent Graduate.

Hooded gunmen killed Mr. Precious Chidozie James, a recent graduate of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, who studied petrochemical engineering.

He was killed close to his family’s compound in Owaza, Abia State’s Ukwa West LGA.

Chidozie James was killed on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at approximately 2:15 am while he was getting ready to report for mandatory National Youth Services Corps, or NYSC, after going on a night patrol in the area with his older brother, Enyeribe James, who was the leader of the Independent Petroleum Marketers of Nigeria (IPMAN) Ukwa East/Ukwa West anti-bunkering task force.

A community source claims that tragedy occurred when Chidozie, who was operating a Tundra truck, and his older brother were ambushed and attacked by gunmen who came out of the bush. The gunmen shot at the occupants of the two vehicles, killing Chidozie in the process, while James, his older brother, was able to flee into the bush.

Men from the Obehie Police station, led by DSP Ibrahim, evacuated the victim’s body at approximately 9:35 a.m. the same day.

Even though the victim’s family is pleading for justice from the relevant government bodies, no entity has taken responsibility for the killing of the recent graduate.

The young man’s death was deemed unacceptable by Ukwa West LGA Mayor Dike Nwankwo, who responded to the unflattering event by pointing out that preliminary reports from the Ukwa Division’s Divisional Police Officer (DPO) stated that they currently don’t know who the attackers are.

Johnson Ihunanya Nwosu, the Mayor’s chief press secretary, made the statement. “We will use all available mechanisms to ensure that the full force of the law is applied without delay, as the careless and intentional targeting of innocent citizens under any guise is a direct threat to public order.”

Security operations throughout Ukwa West were stepped up under the direction of the LGA Mayor of Ukwa West, who enforced a zero-tolerance policy against hired assassins, organised crime groups, and anybody else trying to undermine the communities.

In order to find the murderers, he claimed, he was collaborating with the police, the Department of State Services, and other security organisations.
