After a violent student protest, the administration of Katsina State’s Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA) announced a one-week midterm vacation on February 24.

Students said that a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) had shot and killed one of their colleagues, accusing him of being an informant, which sparked the demonstration on Sunday. The university’s vice-chancellor, Prof. Armaya’u Bichi, announced the temporary closure because of the ongoing turmoil on Monday morning.
Bichi confirmed the University Senate’s decision in a statement released in Katsina on Monday, urging students to leave the campus by 6:00 p.m. on February 24.
