Adepoju David, a Nigerian student, received the title of Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE)’s overall best graduating student after obtaining a Bachelor of Mathematics degree with an outstanding 4.87 CGPA out of 5.00.
On LinkedIn, David shared his inspirational academic journey, which he described as a combination of challenges and successes. Even though getting such a great grade was a dream come true, he disclosed that the path was paved with late nights, self-doubt, financial difficulties, and challenges that tried his fortitude.

For three semesters in a row, David maintained a perfect 5.0 CGPA throughout his studies. In the other three semesters, he only slightly deviated, receiving a single “B.” He nevertheless earned a First-Class degree and several honours, such as: • Best Graduating Student in the Faculty of Science and the Department of Mathematics • Dean’s Award for eight consecutive semesters • MTN Foundation Scholarship recipient
David actively pursued leadership and professional roles outside of his studies. The second-largest Christian fellowship on campus, Christ Apostolic Church Campus Fellowship, was led by him as its president. In addition, he mentored more than 200 students in his department, faculty, and fellowship while working as an intern at the International Centre for Applied Mathematical Modelling and Data Analytics (ICAMMDA).
In light of his experience, David underlined that perseverance, faith, and determination are essential for success regardless of one’s upbringing.
Despite not having all the advantages, I had perseverance, faith, and the will to keep going. There were obstacles in every way, but they didn’t control how I turned out. I got through it because of my perseverance, hard work, and faith in God,” he said.
David acknowledged that no success is accomplished alone and conveyed his sincere gratitude to his parents, mentors, and supporters. As he moves forward, he sees this achievement as the beginning of a greater journey, ready to lead, innovate, and contribute meaningfully to the world.
“The lessons I have learned, the resilience I have built, and the character I have developed will be the foundation upon which I build my next achievements. This is only the beginning,” he added.
