Female students from Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University in Makurdi, Benue State, have been kidnapped by gunmen.
The attack happened on Tuesday night at the university’s North Core campus while four or more students were apparently on their way to a study session. Before capturing their victims, the attackers broke into the hostel area.
Operatives from the Nigerian Army reached the location shortly after the event. Sewuese Anene, a spokesman for the Benue State Police, confirmed the kidnapping and said that an inquiry is being conducted into the initial claims that two pupils were seized.
The rising number of student abductions in Nigerian higher education institutions is exacerbated by this incidence.
