Two Students Expelled and Eight Suspended For Cheating, Ebonyi.

Three students were withdrawn due to subpar academic performance, while two students were expelled for test malpractice and eight others were suspended for stealing from David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUHS), located in Uburu, Ebonyi State.

At the university’s fourth matriculation ceremony, where 990 new students were formally accepted for the 2024–2025 academic year, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jesse Uneke announced these disciplinary measures.

Prof. Uneke emphasised how the institution has expanded since its founding in 2021, presently enrolling 2,496 students and providing cutting-edge academic services like online payments, computer-based exams, and access to global research databases.

Speaking to the new students, he emphasised the value of discipline and urged them to actively participate in the two-week orientation program and abide by university regulations.

The Vice-Chancellor also unveiled a number of ongoing and completed projects aimed at enhancing the campus experience, such as a new three-story student laboratory and classroom complex, a fully furnished four-story female hostel with 72 rooms, a two-story male hostel that is almost finished, a 20-room professorial guest house, and a nearly finished 1,799-capacity multipurpose auditorium.

In order to promote research, education, and medical services, DUFUHS has also opened a cancer centre, an eye centre, and a renal centre. There are also plans to install CCTV cameras for increased security, increase internet connectivity, and expand the number of dormitories.

Prof. Grace Umezuruike, the Secretary to the State Government, spoke on behalf of Ebonyi State Governor Chief Francis Nwifuru and urged students to remain focused on their studies, steer clear of social distractions, and act as honourable representatives of the university.

In addition to formally launching the new multipurpose laboratory facility, the governor praised the university’s leadership for upholding high standards and reiterated support for DUFUHS’s goal of becoming a worldwide recognised institution.
