The ceremony was the second of its sort and was held at the Yusufu Bala Usman Hall Main Campus in Samaru, Zaria.
Prof. Kabiru Bala, the vice-chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, praised the union’s action and described the scholarship award as a commendable goal.
The Vice-Chancellor, represented by Prof. Sahalu Junaidu, Dean of the Students Affairs Division, expressed happiness that ASUU is praising the University Management’s scholarship program for international and special needs students.

He counselled the recipients to strive for the greatest outcomes and not take the gesture for granted.
In a statement, Prof. Sanusi Aliyu Rafindadi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Advancement, Research, and Innovation, commended ASUU for being the premier union that prioritises societal interests.
He emphasised that the union prioritised the interests of society over their own by helping impoverished students during a period when academic staff members are struggling with low incomes as a result of economic difficulties.
The students were urged by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor to return the favour in the future. Comrade Haruna M. Jibril, the Chairman of the ASUU, ABU Chapter, gave a welcome speech in which he praised the union for agreeing to raise the scholarship’s worth from N2 million to N4.4 million.
He urged ASUU to carry on with the gesture and hailed the recipients. Beneficiary representatives conveyed their sincere appreciation for ASUU’s assistance with their academic endeavours. They expressed gratitude to the union for considering them deserving of the honour.
