With an impressive 4.98 CGPA out of 5.0, Joy Nmachukwu Ahiakwo, a 26-year-old alumnus of Caleb University in Ikorodu, Lagos, has been named the Class of 2024’s best-graduating student in Industrial Chemistry.
Although she was certain that she would receive a First-Class degree, Ahiakwo revealed that she had not expected to be named the top graduating student. Strict discipline, a well-organised study schedule, and an unshakeable focus on her assignments were the main factors that drove her commitment to academic success. She studied every day from 7 to 10 p.m. and eventually extended her study hours in her senior year, emphasising the value of consistency. She enthusiastically engaged in departmental tutorials, frequently taking the lead in discussions and guiding her friends, but unlike many other students, she liked to study alone.
When Ahiakwo thought back on her time in college, she acknowledged that it was first difficult to get used to Caleb University, particularly as a Direct Entry student. But in the end, she developed close bonds with her classmates. She also gave her parents, especially her father, credit for their consistent support, which made the transition from studying abroad to Nigerian schooling comfortable and easy.
Ahiakwo has a strong interest in chemistry and hopes to pursue a successful career in a variety of fields, such as oil, textiles, cosmetics, and medicines. Instead of being restricted to a particular role, she hopes to pursue a variety of endeavours. Asserting that exceptional academic success is attainable with perseverance and faith, she counselled prospective students to maintain discipline, have faith in God, and have faith in their own skills.
