Due to worries that she wouldn’t return to Nigeria following the conference, the embassy has refused a Nigerian woman who received a fully financed scholarship to attend a major tech event in London a visa.
She shared her story on social media, revealing that her visa application was denied even though she had full sponsorship. To bolster her allegations, she also included photographs of her scholarship award.

“I received a fully funded scholarship to attend a tech event in London, but my visa was denied,” she wrote, expressing her sadness. One of the explanations offered was that I wouldn’t be going back to my homeland following the event. She begged for an appeal, highlighting the importance of the chance for her profession, with less than ten days until the event and a fifteen-day visa processing period.
Her story went viral on the internet, causing many people to respond and criticise the choice. Many criticised the embassy’s decision as harsh and questioned how they came to the conclusion that she would not return. While some voiced concern about similar visa denials impacting young professionals, others urged her to look for other options.
Even when fully sponsored and well-documented, her situation serves as a reminder of the difficulties many Nigerians have while looking for employment abroad.
