The story of Dr. Enyi Onyebuchi Paul, a Nigerian who holds a PhD in Mathematics Education but is currently employed as a cleaner at Ebonyi State University (EBSU) in Abakaliki, has been accompanied by shock and worry.
Dr. Enyi, who was first employed in 2007 as a cleaner/messenger and is from Ikelegu Ishieke in Ebonyi LGA, pursued his academic objectives with great tenacity, graduating with a BSc, MSc, and PhD from the same university where he now holds a menial position.
Journalist Odo Godfrey Chikwere of Legacy 95.1 FM revealed his story on social media, bemoaning the discrepancy between Dr. Enyi’s credentials and his present role.
“Dr. Enyi Onyebuchi Paul is here. The doctorate holder still makes less than ₦70,000 per month, according to Odo, who wrote, “He struggled to see himself through university education in the same school, earning a PhD in 2022.”
Odo urged prominent members of the Izzi community to step in and support a position that aligns with Dr. Enyi’s qualifications. He went on to say, “This guy’s case should be an embarrassment to any Izzi man. He approached them for help, but they turned him down.”
