A Nigerian Woman Earns Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD from US.

In a stunning display of academic excellence, Roseline Adewuyi, a wonderful Nigerian woman, has advanced significantly in her schooling both in Nigeria and the US.

Roseline’s academic career began at Obafemi Awolowo University, where she graduated as the top female graduate in her class with a first-class degree in French Studies.

With a focus on French language and literature, she went on to earn her master’s degree at the University of Ibadan, where she once more graduated with honours and was named the best graduating student.

Roseline continued her education at Purdue University in the United States, where she obtained a PhD in French Language and Literature with a Graduate Concentration in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, motivated by her love of French literature and research.

She shared on LinkedIn that her successful PhD defence in 2024 signified more than just a degree; it was a testament to tenacity and the carrying on of a tradition.

As the third PhD recipient in her family, Roseline proudly joins her parents, who both established the groundwork for her achievement as PhD holders. She describes times when her strength and resolve were put to the test, openly acknowledging the difficulties of her academic career.

Every challenge was greeted with dignity, a community of support, and inspiration to keep going—not just for herself, but for other young Black scholars hoping to break down obstacles. “It really takes a village to raise a child,” she thought.

The Office of the Vice Provost for Student Life honoured Roseline with the Dean Betty Nelson Service Award at the Student Life Honours Awards Ceremony in appreciation of her services to the community. Her university is located in the Greater Lafayette Area, and this honour honours students who excel in community service.

In retrospect, Roseline is incredibly appreciative, pointing out that her membership in the Black Graduate Student Association gave her a feeling of community and strengthened her conviction that greatness can thrive in a nurturing setting.
