Minister of Education Reaffirms Bilateral Scholarship to Nigerians.

Nigerian students can study in partner nations like China, Russia, Algeria, Hungary, Morocco, Egypt, and Serbia thanks to the BEA Program, which is the result of close diplomatic ties and mutual cooperation. The Federal Government of Nigeria supplements this assistance with take-off grants, monthly supplementation during the study period, and return passage upon successful completion of their programs. Through these agreements, host countries give beneficiaries free tuition, housing, and monthly stipends.

The Ministry is happy to announce that, as of December 2024, all additional allowances owed to Nigerian scholars have been paid. This demonstrates the Honourable Minister of Education’s persistent efforts to give Nigerian students studying overseas top priority.

Nonetheless, the Ministry admits that recent changes in exchange rates caused gaps in the distribution of funds. The Honourable Minister has formally asked for more funding in order to address this issue, cover the disparities, and guarantee that all impacted students receive their full entitlements.

Looking ahead, the Federal Ministry of Education’s Capital Budget includes funding for the scholarship program. Disbursement of funds under the 2025 Capital Budget is anticipated to start in earnest once implementation gets underway, in accordance with the extension of the 2024 Capital Budget.

The Ministry reassures all parties involved of its steadfast dedication to helping Nigerian students studying overseas and its diligent efforts to fulfil all BEA-related obligations in a prompt and efficient manner.

We reaffirm our commitment to the ongoing success of the Bilateral Education Agreement Program and sincerely thank all students and their families for their patience and understanding.
