5 Tips To Prepare For That First Real Job Interview

You are prepared for your first real job after graduating from high school or college. How can you ace the interview to increase your chances of getting the job offer?

Put on business attire.

You’re heading to work, not the beach, so forget about low-cut blouses, flip-flops, and shirts that expose your stomach. Although purchasing a suit is not required, it is especially crucial to seem professional.

Don’t dress like you’re heading to a concert if you’re trying to land a job in a conservative office, like an accounting firm. You have a little more leeway if you are looking for a retail job. I would advise you to dress as if you were about to meet one of the most significant persons in your life—because you are!—instead of listing what is and is not appropriate.

Ensure your appearance is presentable

Don’t appear as though you didn’t even bother to practice basic personal hygiene when you got out of bed.

Unwashed hair, dirty fingernails, or body odour are the things that will prompt the HR Manager to end the interview sooner rather than later.

Being an employee means that you will represent the company, and no client wants to deal with someone who is dishevelled.

Pay attention to your nonverbal cues

Starting the interview with a solid handshake demonstrates your confidence. Remain calm, make eye contact, and pay attention to the interviewer. Pose queries and pay close attention to the responses you receive. Consider your response before answering the interviewer’s questions; don’t digress and stay on topic.

Arrive to the interview ready.

Do some preliminary research on the organization. These days, all businesses have websites where you may find out about their services and clientele. This demonstrates to the interviewer your interest in the position and your initiative to learn as much as you can about the business.

Show up for the interview

I’ve conducted interviews with applicants who pretended to be bus waiters.

They just listened to me without asking any questions, and I wasn’t sure if they were paying listening. Participate in the interview, ask questions, and show enthusiasm. I asked a candidate whether this sounded like something she would be interested in after outlining all the responsibilities of the role.

She answered quietly, “I can handle the job.” She didn’t respond to my query, gave off the impression that she didn’t care, and lost the job. You won’t be motivated at work if you can’t be enthusiastic during the interview.

Finally

As first impressions matter, you want to convey to the interviewer your desire for the position, your willingness to put in a lot of effort, and your best effort. Even if you are not the most qualified applicant, you may still be hired due to your exceptional performance. Wishing you luck!
