Abdulrahaman Abdulrazaq, the governor of Kwara state, has stated that he is willing to work with ONE Innovation Hub Offa to acquire digital skills.
The state government also remarked how happy it is that ONEIH, a community-based initiative, is a digital marvel that can educate the next generation about the advancements in technology.
Mr. Kayode Ishola, the Kwara state special adviser on digital innovation, made this revelation on Thursday afternoon.
The ONEIH-Kola Balogun Technology Centre (O-KBTC), slated for commissioning on December 28, was also visited by Mr. Isola.
He explained that the visit was a part of the Kwara state government’s attempt to figure out how to work together and promote citizens’ digital literacy.
He claimed that the administration of Mallam Abdulrahman is working nonstop to improve the state’s technical capabilities and that collaboration with digital hubs would enable the state to rank among the top states for technological advances in the state’s ICT sector.
“Our goal is to unite all of the state’s tech hubs and establish them as a development partner with the state government.”
“We should be able to bring people together to collaborate through technology, which is why one of the first tasks I undertook after taking over the office was to visit tech clusters around the state and identify potential areas for collaboration.
“The state government is open to working with the business sector, but we recognize that this is a private enterprise. We’re curious to find out how we can help. For example, the state government hosted a hackathon earlier this year with over 250 digital ecosystem builders from all around Nigeria, organized by ONEIH. They developed digital skills and shared creative ideas to solve a variety of problems pertaining to government-affiliated businesses. The two-day competition drew competitors from states such as Cross Rivers, Kano, Nasarawa, Niger, and Kwara. Let’s explore how we can collaborate so that the government will always know when you wish to take action and know how to get involved.
He went on to say that the inspection was intended to analyze the state’s IT facilities on the ground, taking into account their demands, potential areas of partnership, and other factors.
Speaking as well, One Innovation Hub Offa’s Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Taofeek Olatinwo, thanked the state government for deeming the hub deserving of cooperation. He continued by revealing that since its founding, the ONEIH has trained more than 3,000 individuals.
Along with praising the Kwara State Government, he said, “This is the kind of partnership we at ONEIH will like to tap into, too.” The Kwara State Government has a partnership with the multinational telecommunications giant.
He revealed that the center is actively developing artificial intelligence, printed circuit boards (PCBs), and drone technology, which encompasses assembly, manufacturing, and even drone piloting.
“ONE Innovation Hub” stands for “Offa and Environs Innovation Hub,” according to Olatinwo. This will guarantee the inclusivity of all the towns and villages surrounding Offa, and therefore the entire Kwara State and neighboring states. When we refer to the latter, we mean regions like Kogi, Osun, Niger, Ekiti, Oyo, etc.
Additionally, we are collaborating on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education with Offa secondary schools. Every week, ONEIH facilitators visit secondary schools to train the students. Additionally, we are imparting to them entrepreneurial and self-reliance abilities. There are a few more, but they are not like our normal hackathons, internships, or training sessions.
“I am incredibly thrilled about our collaboration. I am enthusiastic about the potential collaboration with the Kwara state government to broaden the scope and impact of our youth-oriented initiatives. Our goal is to remove the young people from the streets. Giving them skills that will enable them to become entrepreneurs is our goal. They’ll be able to make beneficial contributions to their communities, families, Kwara state, and Nigeria overall.
The ONEIH Manager, Mrs. Mary Oyinbo, praised the state government for its cooperative approach in the ICT sector.
“Listening to what the administration is doing is pleasing. I’m glad you’re pursuing this intriguing strategy to find out what can be accomplished and how cooperation can be formed. As I consider what our partnership may produce in the near future, I am hopeful. We forward collaborating with you in the future. Many thanks for it.
