CURSORY: Nigerian University professor Ogechi Odeola has been appointed as the deputy vice-chancellor in an overseas institution.

The University of Kigali (UK) has appointed Nigerian marketing expert Professor Ogechi Adeola as its new deputy vice-chancellor.
Her appointment to the new role will begin on January 11, 2024, according to a statement on the university’s website.
The professor’s nomination as the new deputy vice-chancellor, according to the statement, also reflects her commitment to academic achievement and her leadership abilities, both of which are consistent with the university’s vision and goal.
The Professor’s Accomplishments
Professor Adeola has over 28 years of experience in teaching, research, and administration. She holds an MBA and a Doctorate in Business Administration from Alliance Manchester Business School in the UK.
After beginning her career at Citibank Nigeria, Professor Adeola went on to become the Head of the Department of Operations, Marketing, and Information Systems at Pan-Atlantic University at Nigeria’s Lagos Business School.
According to the Alper-Doger Scientific Index, which assesses the calibre and influence of academic research, she is also ranked #1 in Nigeria for marketing.
In addition to her academic career, Professor Adeola has served as a mentor, consultant, and supporter of women’s empowerment. The Digital Business Tutelage for Women Empowerment in Africa Initiative (DBTWEAi), which she founded, aims to give women business savvy and digital skills.
“Professor Adeola’s extensive experience as Deputy Vice-Chancellor – Academic at UoK promises contributions to academic leadership, aligning with the university’s unwavering commitment to excellence,” the announcement said. Professor Adeola conveyed her appreciation and pleasure for the chance to work at the University of Kent.
