JAMB mandates age requirement, stipulating that candidates must be 16 years old at the time of admission.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has raised concerns over the growing prevalence of fraudulent age claims on NIN slips provided by candidates. This alarming pattern involves teenage applicants manipulating their ages in order to get admission into universities.
JAMB explicitly declared that only applicants who are at least sixteen at the time of admission will be eligible.
The board’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, issued a directive supported by Prof. Tahir Mamman, the Minister of Education and Chairman of the 2024 tertiary admission policy meeting. The directive states that they will fully implement the current 6-3-3-4 education policy starting in the 2025 academic session.
The statement expressed concerns about institutions and applicants manipulating records by falsifying entrance dates and ages. This manipulation allows the use of genuine credentials with identical names for fraudulent admissions and NYSC participation.
