First-Class Edo IDP Graduate Gets US University PhD Scholarship

Amos Ishaku, a highly accomplished graduate and displaced individual from the Uhorgua camp in Edo State, received a fully-funded scholarship to pursue a PhD at the prestigious University of Illinois in Chicago, USA.

Ishaku obtained a first-class degree in Chemical Engineering from Edo State University, Uzairue in November 2023.

During a Thursday phone call, Solomon Folorunsho, the camp’s Coordinator, highlighted Ishaku’s accomplishment. He emphasized it shows the positive outcomes of helping those in need.

Under the management of the Home for the Needy Foundation, the camp has seen several residents achieve outstanding academic success. Currently, there are more than 200 residents enrolled at different colleges, and an additional 150 residents are in the process of getting admission.

Folorunsho expressed appreciation to the benefactors and advocates who have facilitated these achievements, highlighting that Ishaku’s narrative serves as evidence of the influence of their efforts.

Ishaku, the Best Graduating Student of 2023, also received several other accolades, including the Mike Ozekhome award for top-performing graduate overall, Best Student in the Department of Chemical Engineering, and Best Student in Entrepreneurship and the Faculty of Engineering.

Folorunsho said that Ishaku is anticipated to commence his academic pursuits at the University of Illinois in the next month.
