UNILORIN SUG student notification on private hostel bedspace booking.
A notification on the reservation of private hostel beds has been sent to all students by the University of Ikorin’s Students Union Government.
According to the notification, “We are concerned about the misguided pressure coming from our colleagues (both returning and Fresh) to secure private hostel bed spaces on campus, as this goes against university ethics and culture.” Although we acknowledge the requests and their consequences for prompt settlement and student safety, this legislation permits rule breaking and puts kids at risk of preventable extortion.
No student qualifies for hostel accommodations until the university senate declares the official restart date and approves good standing results.
Nonetheless, we would like to advise you of the following details:
- Application fees for private hostels should not surpass N1,000.
- Students who have paid for a bed should request a reimbursement or risk losing their money.
- Notify the Student Union or Student Affairs Unit of any intimidation you may have received from hostel personnel.
- Based on classification, the approved dorm rate for the next academic year will be announced shortly; utilities are the responsibility of the students.
- Items with high energy consumption are prohibited in an effort to use less power.
These include hot plates, a toaster, an electric oven, a boiling ring, and an electric pressing iron that uses little more than 300 watts.
- Residents will receive a N10,000 caution deposit refund, provided they cause no damage to the hostel’s property.
