Ojedele Jesuferanmi Emmanuel, a 16-year-old Architecture student at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has won the 2024 Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) Annual National Undergraduate Essay Competition.
He emerged as the winner during the award ceremony at the NCDMB Tower, Ox-Bow Lake, Yenagoa. Emmanuel, a second-year student from Oyo State, received ₦1 million, a new laptop, and a golden plaque for his outstanding essay.
Second place was awarded to 23-year-old Miracle Okoli, a Law student at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. She earned ₦750,000, a laptop, and a plaque. Okogbe Mary, a 19-year-old Electrical Engineering student at Igbinedion University, Okada, secured the third position with a prize of ₦500,000, a laptop, and a plaque.
Speaking on behalf of NCDMB Executive Secretary Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, Esueme Dan-Kikile, General Manager of Corporate Communications, praised all participants, particularly the top finalists, for their intellectual contributions. He emphasized the competition’s role in promoting local content awareness and building capacity for Nigeria’s economic growth.
“The NCDMB has sustained this initiative for eight years because of its significance in enhancing education and intellectual development,” said Ogbe. “This aligns with our mission of capacity building and fostering local content development.”
The competition, organized by Mahogany 21st Century Concepts Limited, saw over 2,000 students nationwide participate. CEO Eyinimi Omorizi commended the winners and thanked the NCDMB for its consistent support. The program encourages critical thinking, communication skills, and writing proficiency, equipping students for opportunities in the emerging digital economy.
This initiative highlights the NCDMB’s commitment to empowering students and nurturing academic excellence in Nigeria.
