
In his introductory remarks, the school’s director, Prof. Yunus Dauda, commended the administration, led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, for providing the necessary motivation, encouragement, and resources to enable the school to achieve its goal of preparing students for the JUPEB exam and subsequent admission into the university’s 200 levels.
He said that the Vice-Chancellor’s backing has significantly improved LASUSBAS’ standing and helped the school reach its highest enrolment since its founding. Prof. Dauda emphasised a number of current administration initiatives to support his point, such as the payment of examination fees for JUPEB students, the construction of the first-ever 150-space CBT centre in Badagry, the refurbishment of the Aradagun Hostel, the advancement and training of the school’s tutors, and the timely payment of their benefits, among other accomplishments.
He added that the purpose of the orientation was to highlight LASUSBAS’ achievements and reaffirm the School’s dedication to promoting research, teaching, and community involvement.
In order to promote more inclusivity, the LASU Foundation Program was upgraded to LASUSBAS, according to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, in her speech. “We created the LASUSBAS program from the LASU Foundation JUPEB program to give more opportunities for people who want to learn to get the education they need to either facilitate Direct Entry admissions into our prestigious university’s full-time degree programs or to provide a solid foundation for those with other aspirations,” she stated.
While warning the students against social vices, she also reassured them of her administration’s commitment to constantly improving facilities to create a favourable academic environment.
The Akran of Badagry, His Royal Majesty, De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I, represented by Chief Anthony Oloyede Hunjitose; the Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Olusegun Onilude; and the Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Prof. Akanji Bankole, represented by Prof. N. S. Alaka, all gave goodwill messages. Following a performance by the Akere Ogu Cultural Troupe, the event’s high point was the motivational vote of appreciation given by student delegate Fatima Qusim.
In order to facilitate the students’ transition into the one-year program, the program also included a number of lectures on subjects like career guidance and counselling, gender-based violence and sexual harassment, security awareness, school fee payment procedures, and library use, among others.
