With an impressive 4.71/5.00 CGPA in Mechanical Engineering and the second-best graduating student award in his field, Abdur-Razaq Sayfullah Adebola, a talented Nigerian graduate, has become one of Olabisi Onabanjo University’s (OOU) top students.
Sayfullah’s academic career was characterised by tenacity, forethought, and unflinching resolve. He began his first semester with a CGPA of 3.86 after receiving a “E” in a difficult four-unit course, but he was not deterred. Rather, he re-planned and dedicated himself to a focused study style, which resulted in a flawless 5.00 GPA in his second semester and an increase in his CGPA to 4.43.
He earned 13 As and one B in 14 classes during his 200-level year, demonstrating that his hard work paid off. This increased his CGPA to 4.63 and his GPA to 4.97.
He eventually finished with a 4.71 CGPA, maintaining his First-Class position through diligent study and dedication.
Sayfullah attributed his success in school to three fundamental ideas:
- Mastering the syllabus – ensuring a deep understanding of coursework.
- Understanding exam expectations – solving past questions, seeking clarification, and listening to lecturers’ cues.
- Relentless effort and determination – tackling challenges head-on without excuses.
Sayfullah committed himself to mentoring people in addition to his studies. He tutored younger colleagues from his 200-level to his final year, strengthening his own expertise while assisting others in achieving success. He continued to learn outside of the classroom.
In keeping with his love of technology and creativity, he obtained a certificate in Python programming and advanced to an intermediate level of fluency in Chinese.
Sayfullah actively pursued internships to obtain real-world experience. One such internship at Geoplex Drillteq Limited (Port Harcourt) gave him practical training in:
- Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE)
- Safety protocols • Wireline and slackline operations
- Logistics management
With the aid of sophisticated programs like SolidWorks, Autodesk Fusion 360, and STAR-CCM+, he additionally refined his abilities in 3D CAD design and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
His mastery of engineering simulations was demonstrated in his senior project, Simulation of Heat Transfer in a Channel Using Sinusoidal Wire Insert. Sayfullah wants to pursue a career in robotics, mechatronics, or aerospace engineering with the goal of creating scalable solutions that improve technology worldwide. Following his personal motto,
As he starts the next stage of his journey, he is steadfast in his commitment to excellence, innovation, and lifelong learning. “No excuses, just results.”
