Celest Afriyie Hamilton, a 23-year-old Ghanaian who started off selling used clothing on the streets before graduating with a first-class degree and moving to the US for graduate school, has conquered great obstacles.
Afriyie supported herself as a street seller in Accra’s Central Business District while she studied for her bachelor’s degree in English education at the University of Ghana. She recounted her inspirational story in a TikTok video, juggling early study sessions with long hours selling clothing to graduate with high honours.

She worked as a teaching assistant in the university’s English department after earning her degree. In addition to her academic accomplishments, she co-founded the hairstyling and braiding company Pretty O’Clock, showcasing her entrepreneurial energy. She didn’t have any official hairdressing instruction, but she used her innate abilities to establish her brand.
Afriyie recently disclosed that she had relocated to Ontario, California, in order to continue her education. She now lives in the United States and continues to support herself while furthering her education as a hairstylist, demonstrating that tenacity and willpower can make dreams come true.
