Five students have been suspended and five expelled from Arthur Jarvis University in Cross River State’s Akpabuyo Local Government Area for a variety of infractions, including general misbehaviour, bullying, and truancy.
Mary Dan-Abia, the university’s interim registrar, stated in a statement issued on Monday that the decision came after a disciplinary panel hearing in which the impacted students had a chance to make their claims.
The occurrences occurred on December 12, 2024, and January 18, 2025, and entailed gang bullying and violence.
The team came to its conclusion after examining the available data and speaking with the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor, and Registrar, among other important university representatives.

Five students who were actively involved were expelled after a thorough evaluation of the incident, while five others who were less involved were suspended—three for a month and two for two weeks. Since then, every impacted student has left the campus, according to the statement. Only a few days have passed since the Chancellor cautioned students against vices, especially those involving drugs.
The university’s strong position against misconduct was reaffirmed in the statement, which also made clear that any student found guilty of drug use, possession, distribution, or smuggling would be expelled right away. The university’s ruling is a powerful deterrence that emphasises the value of rules compliance, discipline, and respect.
The message is still clear for the suspended and expelled students, as well as for other students: nobody is above the law,” the statement said.
