Before eventually receiving a fully funded World Bank Scholarship to attend the University of California, Berkeley, Temidayo Falade, a Nigerian graduate of Babcock University, had to endure ten scholarship rejections over a number of years. He started his adventure in 2016 with a business administration degree, and he persevered through many obstacles.
He applied for numerous prominent scholarships, such as the Chevening Scholarship, Commonwealth Scholarship, Knight-Hennessy Scholarship at Stanford, and the Mastercard Scholarship at the University of Edinburgh and Berkeley, since he was determined to pursue a graduate degree overseas. Every rejection was a devastating blow, but one in particular was when he was riding the “Okada” to work and found out he had been rejected for a Berkeley Mastercard.

Temidayo saw the setbacks as inspiration to get better and submit more applications rather than letting them deter him. When he was granted the prestigious World Bank Scholarship in 2023—which rewards development specialists with at least three years of experience—his perseverance and tenacity finally paid off.
Temidayo’s tale provides as motivation for those going through comparable difficulties, demonstrating that tenacity and diligence can eventually pay off. His accomplishment serves as a reminder of the value of fortitude when confronted with rejection and the strength of perseverance when pursuing one’s goals.
