Nigerian woman Bridget Ujah-Ognuagu, who began petty trading at the age of eight to help her family, has surmounted many obstacles to become the first person in her family to graduate from college with a PhD in computer science.
Bridget grew up in a modest home, juggling school, working on the farm with her father, and assisting her mother in selling in markets. She was adamant about obtaining an education, so she went to neighbourhood schools before being accepted to Michael Okpara University of Agriculture in 2006 to study computer science. She graduated in 2010 as one of the best students in her class.

She continued her education by pursuing a Master’s degree at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) while balancing her obligations to her family and a full-time job. Despite a rigorous schedule and lengthy commutes, she earned an impressive CGPA of 4.37 when she graduated in 2015.
Due to her love of teaching, Bridget pursued a doctorate at the University of Ilorin, where she overcame the difficulties of teaching, working, and raising a family, including two pregnancies. She obtained her doctorate in 2023 after successfully defending her thesis.
