UNILORIN Student is Suing a Woman After she Turned Him Down.

A woman has talked about her startling experience after a master’s student from the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) sued her for ₦2.5 million, alleging fraud and emotional anguish because she wouldn’t date him.

She described how their conversations started and eventually resulted in legal action in a post on X (previously Twitter).

She claims that she first met the man at Kwara State University when she was a 400-level student. She made it plain that she wasn’t interested in him when he showed romantic interest. He kept bringing her gifts and money even after she rejected him.

When she adamantly informed him that she had no romantic feelings for him, things became heated. She soon got calls accusing her of fraud from the police and his attorney. They even threatened to write her university an official letter.

She was able to clear her record, nevertheless, because their conversation history showed that she had consistently turned down his presents and money. She writes, recalling the incident:

The man is a UNILORIN master’s student. I told him he wasn’t my type when we first met, but he wouldn’t go away. He continued to send me gifts and cash. We ceased communicating when I eventually informed him that I had nothing to contribute.

Then, unexpectedly, I received a call from the police informing me that I was facing fraud charges. She further mentioned that she was contacted by his attorney, who accused her of lying.

She contacted their family lawyer and her brother, who works for the DSS, out of fear of legal issues. For each sum he sent her, the man had collected receipts.

Luckily, her conversation logs showed that she had never voluntarily asked for or taken money from him.

The man insisted she marry him or face him in court when the case was finally brought to the government house for mediation. It’s shocking to learn that he listed her as his partner on a Canadian couple’s visa he had obtained without her knowledge. She wrote the following to explain how he initially obtained her account information:

After assisting me in paying for food during a financial crisis, he obtained my account number. He had a network issue when we went out again later, so I paid for it. He obtained my account number by asking for it in order to issue a refund. She made it clear that although she had agreed to be friends, she had been honest about her lack of interest from the beginning.
