Due to a serious teacher shortage, the vice principal of Ozuitem Community Secondary School in Abia State, who is also visually challenged, and his spouse are the only three people in charge of instructing all 363 students.
Students frequently attend school without receiving a decent education, according to education campaigner and Educare CEO Alex Onyia, who brought attention to the poor situation after seeing the blind vice principal teach a lecture.

There is optimism for better learning conditions, nevertheless, as a result of recent renovations carried out by Onyia’s organisation, which resulted in the school being authorised as a West African Examinations Council (WAEC) examination centre.
Abia State Governor Alex Otti proclaimed a state of emergency in the education sector in response to the larger educational crisis, enacting measures including raising the retirement age for teachers to 65 and guaranteeing equitable compensation.
In order to improve the state’s educational environment, Governor Otti also underlined his administration’s commitment to increasing the student-teacher ratio by declaring that employing more teachers will be a top priority.
