The decision comes after four female students were kidnapped late Tuesday night on campus by unidentified gunmen. Around 8:30 p.m., the students were allegedly on their way to a lecture hall to study when the attackers stopped them and took them to an undisclosed place.
Students were outraged by the occurrence and called on the authorities to act immediately to obtain the release of their friends who had been kidnapped.

Dr. John David, the university’s registrar, sympathised with the victims and their families in a statement released on Wednesday. He instructed all students to leave the school residence halls by 4:00 p.m. on February 26, 2025, and declared a one-week midterm break.
Part of the statement said: “After several consultative meetings with security agencies and stakeholders, the University Management condemns the incident in its entirety in response to the regrettable incident that took place on campus on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at approximately 8:00 p.m., where unknown armed men abducted three students between Zamfara Hostel and Ring Road in North Core.
“Government and security agencies have been duly informed of the unfortunate event. All staff, students, and the general public are urged to remain calm as security agencies are working tirelessly to secure the release of the abducted students.
“As a result, the Inaugural Lecture scheduled for today, February 26, 2025, has been postponed indefinitely. Additionally, in solidarity with the students and parents of the kidnapped students, the university has granted a one-week mid-semester break to adequately address security concerns on campus.
“Consequently, all students are to vacate their hostels before 4:00 p.m. today, Wednesday, February 26, 2025.”
Students and employees were reassured by the university that security measures are being strengthened in order to stop future tragedies.
