Within a year, Jennifer Akyeampong, a driven and aspirational Ghanaian lawyer, obtained a Master of Laws (LLM) in Immigration Law and was admitted to the Bar of England and Wales, demonstrating her extraordinary achievement in the United Kingdom.
She started her legal career in 2013 after enrolling at the University of Ghana, where she graduated in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Archaeology. Jennifer had always dreamed of being a lawyer and had called herself “Barrister” before her dream came true.

Motivated by her love of law, she relocated to the UK and enrolled as a graduate student at the University of Kent to pursue a Bachelor of Laws (LLB). She progressed to the University of Law (UK) after two years of intense study, where she earned her LLM in Immigration Law in 2020. Jennifer was admitted to the Bar of England and Wales that same year after passing the bar exam. She maintained a strong bond with her Ghanaian heritage in spite of this important turning point.
She began attending the Ghana School of Law in 2022, and by 2023, she had been admitted to the Supreme Court of Ghana’s Bar, allowing her to practise law in both Ghana and the United Kingdom.
As she reflected on her journey, Jennifer revealed how she had been envisioning this moment for more than 15 years, which strengthened her faith and perseverance.
“For more than 15 years, I called myself ‘Barrister Serwaa’ even before the dream became a reality. I even changed my social media handles to reflect it. Today, what I spoke into existence has finally come true,” she expressed.
Jennifer also acknowledged the steadfast support of her family, particularly her father.
“A special thanks to my family and friends, especially my dad, who believed in me even when I didn’t. He sacrificed everything, including his last penny, to see me achieve this dream. Fulfilling this for him is my greatest accomplishment,” she said.
Jennifer persisted in her objective in the face of overwhelming obstacles. Now that her goals have come true, she is eager to seize fresh chances, raise her bar, and have an even bigger influence in the legal industry.
