After four years of being turned down by nursing schools, Busola Sule, a Nigerian lady, has finally graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Marymount University in the US. Although she faced many obstacles on her path to achievement, her tenacity and fortitude enabled her to realise her lifetime ambition.
In 2018, Busola graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, but nursing was her real calling. She applied to more than 20 nursing schools during three application cycles, but she was consistently turned down, which left her feeling discouraged and unsure about her future.

She was unexpectedly admitted into Marymount University’s accelerated nursing program in 2022. She continued to struggle, though, and failed two important classes—pediatrics and pathopharmacology—among other things. Her confidence was shaken by these challenges, yet she was adamant about continuing.
When Busola looked back on her path, she said that her hardships only increased her appreciation for her accomplishments. She obtained her accreditation as a Registered Nurse (RN), which entitles her to practise in the US, in addition to her nursing degree.
She used Isaiah 60:22 to celebrate her accomplishment on Instagram, stating, “And when the time is right, I, the Lord, will make it happen!” Busola’s tale serves as an example of tenacity, faith, and the conviction that obstacles are merely opportunities for growth.
