Joshua Suddith broke the record set by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who enrolled at Morehouse College at the age of 15, by being the first person to be admitted at the age of 13.
When Joshua first heard of Dr. King’s academic accomplishments at the age of four, his path to this milestone began. When he received his acceptance letter from Morehouse College on his thirteenth birthday, he realised his personal objective of breaking that record, which he had been inspired to do by the civil rights leader.

Joshua was a young prodigy who showed remarkable intelligence from birth. By nine months, he could speak, by eighteen months, he could read, and at three months, he wrote his first book. He is a “miracle,” according to his mother Chaundra Suddith, who remembers having in-utero surgery to ensure his survival when she was just 19 weeks pregnant.
Joshua outperformed his contemporaries academically, skipping several grades, going from second to fifth, then seventh, and finally eleventh. He had already gotten more than 20 letters of acceptance to colleges by the time he was twelve, including offers from Shaw University, Tennessee State University, Jackson State University, and Miles College. He obtained 27 credit hours with a 3.88 GPA while dual enrolling at Augusta Technical College while still in high school.
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have always been Joshua’s love, and Morehouse College is by far his favourite. He has sent applications to esteemed universities including Harvard, MIT, Georgia Tech, Emory, Yale, and Princeton, but he is still focused on Morehouse, where he intends to study international affairs in order to have an impact on the world.
The Black Man Can Inc., CBCA/Robert Mason, and Morehouse alumni have all acknowledged his accomplishments. Even though Hills Academy has given him a merit scholarship, his family is still hoping for more full-ride scholarships to help pay for his education.
Joshua leads a balanced life despite his academic achievements, spending his leisure time playing the piano and basketball. Joshua Suddith Sr., his father, is incredibly proud of his son’s achievements and stresses the value of having religion at the core of his path.
Joshua has been admitted to Morehouse, but he intends to postpone enrolling for a year in order to finish high school before formally starting college. He said, looking back on his accomplishments, “I am motivated by a love of learning and changing the world for the better. I’m dedicated to developing and getting better, whether that means encouraging people or doing well in school.
