While still completing his PhD in Health Physics at Purdue University in the United States, Kolawole Emmanuel Adesina, a remarkable Nigerian scholar and physics researcher, is creating waves in the international academic community and has won many important honours.

At Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), where he graduated in 2019 with a First-Class degree in Physics, Kolawole’s remarkable academic career got underway. He was hired as a Graduate Assistant at TASUED after completing his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program, where his interest in radiation safety and public health studies grew.
In 2022, Kolawole earned a Master’s degree in Radiation and Health Physics from Olabisi Onabanjo University in an effort to get more in-depth knowledge. He arrived in the US the same year, first attending Missouri University of Science and Technology, and then moving to Purdue University in 2023 to start his PhD studies.
He has received several honours for his innovative work in hazardous metal exposure monitoring, including the Society of Toxicology’s (SOT) emka-SCIREQ Special Award and the Toxicologists of African Origin (TAO) Endowment Fund Student Travel Award. Additionally, he received the coveted Robert S. Landauer, Sr. Memorial Fellowship from the Health Physics Society and the Medical Devices and Combination Product Speciality Section’s (MDCPSS) Student Achievement Award.
Kolawole’s creative approach is on creating scalable, non-invasive devices to track exposure to dangerous metals, which would especially help marginalised communities. His work on X-ray fluorescence-analyzed nasal sample strips (EDXRF) has the potential to completely transform respiratory exposure monitoring.
Kolawole has prospered in spite of the high expense of studying overseas because of research assistantships, scholarships, and financial support from academic associations. He presently works at Purdue as a graduate research assistant, which pays for his living costs and tuition.
As he looks to the future, Kolawole sees himself as a professor and self-employed researcher whose goal is to combine scientific advancement with practical application. He aspires to spearhead research projects that influence public policy, enhance public health, and effect long-lasting change, especially in underdeveloped African areas.
Kolawole suggests early planning, active research participation, and deliberate networking on sites like LinkedIn for young Nigerians who want to study overseas. He said, “Your network can open doors you might not even expect.”
Kolawole Emmanuel Adesina is creating a legacy of creativity, influence, and inspiration on a worldwide basis in addition to striving for academic brilliance.
