With a remarkable cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.73 out of 5.00, one of the highest ever recorded in the university’s Faculty of Law, Opadokun Catherine, a bright young Nigerian, graduated with honours from Ekiti State University (EKSU) with a first-class Law degree (LLB).
She received the university’s and the Faculty of Law’s Overall Best Graduating Student award for her outstanding academic performance.

Catherine’s journey to success was everything but typical. She started her postsecondary studies at the University of Ilorin’s Faculty of Arts eight years ago. She bravely chose to abandon that course and follow her genuine passion—law—in her second year, though.
Two weeks after completing her undergraduate exams, she was studying for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, which she described as a very difficult time in her path. She passionately believed that “anything worth doing is worth doing well” in spite of the demands.
Catherine was accepted into EKSU’s Faculty of Law in 2019, and she seized the chance with vigour and resolve right away. She already got a 4.9 GPA by the second semester of her 100 level.
That achievement served as a catalyst, inspiring her to set even higher goals. Catherine had an excellent academic record during her stay at EKSU. She finished her last year with a flawless 5.0 GPA and a CGPA of 4.8 by her 300 level. Constant effort, innumerable late nights, and a resolute sense of purpose characterised her journey. She received multiple renowned honours for her leadership, tenacity, and drive to excellence in addition to academic distinction for her hard work.
Beyond the recognition, Catherine’s story is a potent reminder of the importance of bravery and tenacity. She underlined that perseverance in the face of adversity and the courage to alter course when needed are frequently the keys to great success. Her capacity to overcome her obstacles is evidence of what may be accomplished with concentrated effort.
As she thought back on her experience, Catherine urged people to not let their circumstances limit them. “You can achieve your goals with discipline and perseverance,” she remarked. “Your future should never be dictated by your origins.
We commemorate my liberation from that constraint today.
She acknowledged the role that God, her family, and her friends had in helping her reach this milestone and expressed her sincere gratitude for their constant support throughout her academic career.
Catherine’s remarkable success story continues to inspire young Nigerians and scholars around Africa as she embarks on the next phase of her journey, demonstrating that excellence is genuinely achievable with vision, perseverance, and faith.
