A Nigerian Lady Emerges As The overall best-graduating Student, With a CGPA of 4.87 While Being gifted a cash prize of ₦500,000.

A remarkable student at Olusegun Agaga University of Science and Technology in Nigeria, Adedayo Taiwo, made history. She obtained a Microbiology degree with an outstanding cumulative grade point average of 4.87 out of 5.00, making her the top student in her class upon graduation. Taiwo’s exceptional academic performance earned her multiple prestigious awards, automatic employment from her state government, and a 500,000 naira cash prize.

Taiwo celebrated her achievement on LinkedIn, sharing her happiness and gratitude while highlighting the roles that grace and diligence played in it. She emphasized the accolades she won for her outstanding work and said she was named the best-graduating student overall for the academic years 2020/2021 and 2022/2023. Taiwo was also honored at the convocation ceremony, becoming the second valedictorian in the school’s history to receive this honor.

In addition to being able to shake hands and get a picture with the governor of Ondo State, Nigeria, Taiwo claimed to have received a total of twelve awards. She disclosed that she had not set out to be the valedictorian when she first enrolled in college, saying that her initial drive came from the prospect of getting a laptop based on her performance in her first semester. But when she went above and beyond her first target of a 4.50 grade point average—achieving an astounding 4.75 GPA—she realized she had more potential.

Throughout her undergraduate career, Taiwo described how she kept a perfect 5.00 grade point average for five semesters in a row, highlighting the difficulties she encountered along the road.

She described the challenges she faced and the compromises, sacrifices, tenacity, and stamina required to accomplish such a feat.

Taiwo gave thanks to God for giving her the courage to reach her academic goals and get beyond challenges. She also said how much she appreciated her mother’s constant support, particularly following the death of her father.

Taiwo is extremely appreciative of his mother for playing the roles of mother and father despite the difficulties. With an eye on the future, Taiwo stated that he would like to pursue graduate degrees in immunology, mycology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or similar topics.
