Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria awarded scholarships to 49 postgraduate international students and 42 undergraduate foreign students.

They also awarded scholarships to 10 Nigerian students as well as six underprivileged undergraduate students.

During the award letter presentation at the Senate Chambers, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kabiru Bala addressed the gathering. He explained that the University’s founders emphasized welcoming individuals of diverse races. This is why the University provides assistance to its most vulnerable students.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Prof. Raymond Bako, represented the Vice-Chancellor. Prof. Bala mentioned that he received letters of request from international students. Management reviewed and approved these requests.

Prof. Bala clarified that the scholarship would not be given in cash. Instead, it will take the form of support measures to help students achieve academic success.

He stressed that there is potential in disability, highlighting that the sky is the starting point for all students with exceptional needs.

The Vice-Chancellor encouraged international students to represent the University well in their home countries after completing their studies.

Dr. Sa’adatu Muhammad Makarfi, Director of the Counselling and Human Development Centre, made an important announcement.

In a significant development, she announced that both undergraduate and postgraduate overseas students will now pay the same tuition fees as domestic students. This decision was made in response to the country’s economic circumstances.

Dr. Makarfi added that the University has fully funded tuition and accommodation for certain students with special needs.

For others who already paid their tuition fees, the University subsidized their accommodation costs.

The Director expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management for their considerate gesture.

Mustapha Sufyan Yahaya, President of Students with Special Needs, expressed appreciation to the University for addressing their concerns.

Yahaya noted that the number of students with disabilities at the University exceeds 15. He urged the administration to expand the scholarship program to include more eligible recipients.

On behalf of overseas students, Abdul Ilyasu Sani expressed gratitude to the University Management and wished for the institution’s success in all its endeavours.

The ceremonies featured the presenting of scholarship award letters to all recipients and a group portrait.

The event had notable attendees, including Registrar Rabiu Samaila, Bursar representative Mr. J. Kwaya, Dean of Students Affairs Division Prof. Sahalu Junaidu, Director of the Directorate of Academic Planning and Monitoring Prof. Mukhtar Bello, University Counsellor Dr. Sa’adatu Atiku, and a representative of the Acting University Librarian, among others.
