The university’s Senate praised six members of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) after they appeared on Stanford University and Elsevier’s list of top scientists.
The inclusion of six staff members this year shows significant progress, with only four staff members making the 2023 list.
This achievement underscores the university’s continued dedication to excellence in research and academia.
Prof. Mohammed Shafiu of Clinical Pharmacy ranked 154,113th globally, and Prof. Jha Basant Kumar of Mathematics, ranked 186,230th, have received recognition
Additional staff include Dr. Mohammed Auwal Ibrahim of Biochemistry (ranked 339,682nd), Dr. Aliyu Alhaji and Prof. Mu’awiya Babale Sufiyan, both from Community Medicine (ranked 435,376th and 621,051st respectively), and Prof. Joseph Olusegun Ayo of Veterinary Physiology and Pharmacology (ranked 729,525th).
In addition to this achievement, ABU’s Senate expressed gratitude for the institution’s 3rd place finish in the African Organisation for Standardisation (ARSO) National Essay Competition. This marks the first time the university has placed in this position.
The Senate also recognized the receipt of the Bankole Olumide Scholarship award and a ₦2 million donation made to the Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology by an alumnus.
Moreover, they appreciated the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria’s establishment of a prize in honor of Prof. Clara L. Ejembi from the Department of Community Medicine.
In addition, the Senate expressed its congratulations to the academic members who had been named Reader/Principal Research Fellow and promoted to Professor at the meeting.
