The community of Vulindlela Primary School has been rocked by a tragic event: Mbali Mlaba, a 13-year-old student in Grade 7, apparently committed himself as a result of persistent bullying and accusations of cheating on an exam.
Mbali was allegedly the target of a classmate who accused her of cheating and harassed and physically attacked her on several occasions. Mbali reportedly expressed concern and even asked for a school transfer, but the abuse persisted into the following term.

Free State Department of Education spokesperson Howard Ndaba verified the unfortunate event and disclosed that Mbali’s mother found a note outlining the grounds for her daughter’s upsetting choice.
The student described how she was afraid of a classmate who had previously abused and harassed her. Ndaba claimed that she had even requested to be transferred to a different school.
Ndaba underlined the department’s concern about the negative effects of bullying on mental health and said that impacted children and teachers have already received psycho-social support.
“The department is dedicated to establishing a secure learning environment based on respect, kindness, and understanding. We encourage communities, parents, and students to collaborate in creating a positive school climate,” he continued.
Ndaba also urged anyone experiencing emotional difficulties or bullying to get support.
“Please get in touch with us if you or someone you know is experiencing bullying or needs assistance. We can all benefit from safe and supportive schools if we work together.
