In the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination UTME, Amaka Abara, a 14-year-old student at Federal Government Girls’ College in Abuja, accomplished an impressive academic milestone by receiving a score of 324 out of 400. Her scores include a remarkable 92 in Physics, 85 in Biology, 72 in Chemistry, and 75 in English.
Amaka did not get at this accomplishment easily. She was made fun of by the public when she disclosed her age while registering at a CBT centre. When she announced that she was fourteen, the whole audience let out a tremendous cheer. Despite her embarrassment, she refused to back down, according to her mother.

Amaka was given a special waiver form intended for applicants who are minors because of her age. There were stringent requirements on the form: only those who were considered “exceptionally gifted” were allowed to take the test, and they had to score at least 320 (80% of the total) to risk being disqualified for 16 years from taking it again.
Her mother suggested waiting another year because she was worried about the pressure. Amaka, however, was unfazed. She said to her mother, “Let’s fill out and sign the form.” “Mum, don’t worry.”
Amaka started studying diligently with all of her might, getting ready as if everything hinged on it. Her perseverance paid off. She not only met the high standard, but surpassed it, demonstrating that she was exceptionally intelligent, just as the waiver demanded.
Amaka, at 15, is determined to follow her ambitions with the same tenacity that has carried her this far, and she hopes to study medicine and surgery at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
