Akintelu Elizabeth Abiola, a remarkable Nigerian woman, is the youngest physician ever to be inducted into the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
A medical doctor must undergo years of intense study, training, and commitment, thus becoming one is no easy task. Although many of her contemporaries were still in their undergraduate studies, Elizabeth reached this milestone at the young age of 21.
Elizabeth moved to Sudan and finished high school at Unity High School in Khartoum after starting her secondary education at the Federal Government Girls’ College in Akure, Nigeria.

She was accepted to study medicine at Ahfad University for Women in Sudan after graduating. Elizabeth was just 21 years old when she earned her medical degree in 2016.
Elizabeth acknowledged that even she hadn’t anticipated hitting such a significant milestone so quickly when she thought back on her amazing accomplishment. She attributed her accomplishment to accelerating her academic path by entering school early and skipping a grade.
But she had to overcome several obstacles on her way to success. She had to deal with severe weather, cultural differences, and language obstacles while studying in Sudan. Elizabeth stayed committed to her dreams in spite of these obstacles.
She took the Hippocratic Oath and was formally inducted into the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) on November 8, 2016, the same year she graduated.
Elizabeth has maintained her status as Nigeria’s youngest doctor since breaking the record in 2016 and serves as an example to young people all throughout the nation.
