Delta Nursing student Faces Disciplinary Action For Viral Video.

Osato Edobor, a student nurse at Delta State College of Nursing Sciences, has been subject to a disciplinary inquiry for reportedly filming and sharing a “unauthorised” video on social media during Nigeria’s First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s visit to Delta State.

Journalist Oseni Rufai posted a copy of the letter, which was dated March 27, 2025, and signed by Evbodaghe Rita Ogonne, the institution’s provost, online. When Edobor recorded herself singing and posted a “unofficial response” to a song during the First Lady’s entrance at the Dome Event Centre in London, the letter accused her of committing a “malicious act.”

10,000 professional kits were given to midwives in the South-South region as part of the Renewed Hope Initiative Health Program in Asaba. The school claims that her behaviour was a chargeable offence under Standardised Disciplinary Action No. 8, Page 21 of the Student Handbook. Edobor was instructed to provide a written justification for why she shouldn’t face disciplinary punishment within twenty-four hours.

Following a widely shared video of nursing students at the occasion dismissing the First Lady as their “mother,” the disciplinary action was taken. When Oluremi Tinubu was introduced by the event’s master of ceremonies as “everyone’s mother,” which is a traditional title for First Ladies in Nigeria, controversy broke out. The pupils, however, unanimously replied, “Na your mama be this,” which translates to “This is your mother,” expressing their disapproval of the title.

Since then, the video has generated a lot of responses, many of which have connected the students’ response to their mounting annoyance with President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s high living expenses, inflation, insecurity, and economic hardship.

During the event, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori commended the First Lady’s efforts, pointing out advancements in the health sector made possible by the RHI program and applauding her commitment to improving the lives of regular Nigerians.

The Orodje of Okpe and retired Major General Felix Mujak Peruo were among the traditional rulers the First Lady met with in the Traditional Rulers’ Council Chambers.
