The University chief executive expressed his great pleasure in welcoming the new students, whom he referred to as “bright minds,” into the university community. The Vice-Chancellor encouraged the new students to take advantage of the chances for personal and intellectual development that lie ahead of them at FUL as they begin a profound academic experience, ensuring that their time at the esteemed University can mould them into pioneering leaders and exceptional scholars.
He said: “Today marks a significant milestone in your academic journey as you officially matriculate into our esteemed university. Congratulations on your admission! You have successfully navigated through a rigorous selection process, and your presence here today is a testament to your hard work, dedication, and intellectual promise.
The primary objective of Federal University Lokoja is to deliver an education of high calibre, cultivate the ability to think critically and cultivate graduates who possess a comprehensive skill set and the necessary knowledge to make significant contributions to society. We aspire to achieve the highest ranking among Nigerian universities and rank among the top ten universities in Africa. Our goal is to establish ourselves as a globally renowned university, renowned for our exceptional teaching, research, and active involvement in the community. These guiding principles work as our navigational tool, propelling us towards academic ingenuity, societal accountability, and profound influence.
Nevertheless, it is imperative to acknowledge the obligations that come with this privilege as we commemorate your integration into our scholarly community. You are not merely students; rather, you serve as representatives of our university. Therefore, as you swear your oath today, it is important to bear in mind that it obligates you to adhere to authorities and uphold ethical behaviour during your tenure at Federal University Lokoja. Adverse consequences will be imposed for any breach of this solemn commitment.
In addition, the Vice-Chancellor stressed the significance of maintaining the University’s principles and standards, stating that Federal University Lokoja strictly prohibits social vices such as cultism, examination malpractice, and indecent dressing. In addition to compromising the integrity of our institution, these acts pose a significant risk to the safety and overall welfare of our whole community.
The speaker emphasized the importance of students maintaining a constant state of security awareness and prioritizing their safety above all other considerations. It was emphasized that although the University environment is generally secure and inclusive, students must remain watchful and cognizant of their surroundings. Additionally, it is advised that students promptly report any suspicious activities or concerns to the relevant authorities.
