Dr. Odunola Agboola has been appointed as the first university librarian of the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences (FUMMS), Abeokuta, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in a major move to launch the school.
The appointment of Dr Agboola, a distinguished academic and librarian from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), was made in honour of her outstanding credentials, wealth of work experience, and noteworthy contributions to the field of library and information sciences.
Dr. Agboola was instrumental at FUNAAB in modernising Library Services, incorporating digital technology into the administration of academic resources, and improving faculty and student access to research. Her proficiency in digital information management and library administration has made a substantial contribution to the advancement of higher education in Nigeria.
Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, the Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB, congratulated Dr. Agboola on her new position and said her appointment was well-earned.
He expressed confidence that she would bring her extensive experience to the new position and help the university flourish, praising her commitment to academic excellence and creative library management. Her hiring demonstrates the Federal Government’s dedication to creating a top-tier medical school founded on strong research, knowledge management, and academic brilliance. Dr. Agboola is anticipated to spearhead the creation of a cutting-edge medical library that would promote medical science research, teaching, and innovation in her role as the first university librarian.
In order to improve healthcare research and provide access to specialised medical education in Nigeria, the Federal Government has founded the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences in Abeokuta. Dr. Agboola and other important Principal Officers have been appointed, and the institution is ready to start up its full academic and administrative operations.
Her selection is generally seen as a calculated step to ensure that the new university has a solid academic basis and develops into a centre for excellence in medical research and education.
