
On Thursday, January 30, 2025, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, will hold an award ceremony to honour 123 notable staff members for their outstanding achievements to academic and institutional development. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kabiru Bala will preside over the ceremony, which is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. at Yusufu Bala Usman Hall on the university’s main campus in Samaru.
As one of the honourees, Dr. Joyce Onoromhenre Agofure will be given the coveted “Most Cited Scholar of the Year” Award, which will acknowledge her exceptional scholarly influence and research effect at ABU and on the international academic scene.
At Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Dr. Agofure is a Senior Lecturer and Researcher in the English and Literary Studies Department (Literature Section), Faculty of Arts. She has been essential in mentoring young academics and has held important academic posts over the years, including Postgraduate Coordinator.
She has received numerous distinguished fellowships and honours for her academic achievements, including the American Council of Learnt Societies’ (ACLS) African Humanities Program Postdoctoral Fellowship and the Fulbright Foreign Student Researcher Fellowship at the University of Idaho in the United States.

- The 9th European Conference on African Studies (ECAS 2023) at the University of Cologne, Germany, was organised by the grant recipient and convener. African peacebuilding, gender discourse, postcolonial studies, and environmental humanities are the main areas of study for Dr. Agofure.
By addressing important socio-political, environmental, and gender issues at the national and international levels and publishing extensively in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters, her work has made a substantial contribution to these fields.
Dr. Agofure is dedicated to expanding knowledge and keeps pushing the limits of mentorship and research, which promotes academic development both inside and outside of ABU. Her honour as the Most Cited Scholar of the Year demonstrates both her enduring influence on the academic world and her scholarly accomplishments.
