EFCC tertiary and secondary essay competition—October 2024

The EFCC Essay competition’s second season is open to the entire public, particularly secondary and higher institution students. Entries may be submitted starting from Thursday, August 8, 2024.

The information provided is as follows:
  1. Classification
Tertiary Category

Subject: “Utilizing Technology for Positive Social Impact: Harnessing Digital Proficiency to Enhance Transparency in Governance.”

Participants in the tertiary category will be evaluated and assessed according to the uniqueness of their 1,500-word submission and their coherent presentation of facts regarding how technological skills can be utilized to tackle social and environmental problems. This may include the creation of healthcare or education applications, data analysis for social justice causes, or the development of digital tools for environmental sustainability.

Secondary Category

Subject: “Investigating Substitutes for Cybercrimes to Promote Sustainable Development”

Judges will evaluate and rank participants in the secondary category based on the novelty of their 1,000-word submission, the clarity and appropriateness of their proposed solutions to cybercrimes, and their ability to demonstrate how young individuals can direct their energy and creativity toward positive online activities, such as digital art, music, writing, or entrepreneurship.

  1. TERMS The tertiary category requires around 1,500 words, whereas the secondary category requires approximately 1,000 words. Double spacing refers to the practice of leaving a blank line between each line of text in a document or piece of writing. Font size 14, specifically using the Century Gothic font.   2. Submissions

We will accept submissions from Thursday, August 8, 2024, until Monday, September 9, 2024. The organizers will invite the winners to the Cybercrime Summit, tentatively slated for October 2024.

  1. METHODS

The organizers will invite six winners from Nigeria, three from the secondary category and three from the tertiary category, to Abuja for the award ceremony.

  1. AWARDS

Tertiary Category

  • Prize: N800,000 (Eight Hundred Thousand Naira)
  • The first runner-up will get a cash prize of N500,000, which is equivalent to five hundred thousand Naira.
  • The second runner-up will get a cash prize of N300,000, which is equivalent to three hundred thousand Naira.

Secondary Category: B

  • The winner will get a cash prize of N700,000, which is equivalent to seven hundred thousand Naira.
  • The first runner-up will get a cash prize of N400,000, which is equivalent to Four Hundred Thousand Naira.
  • The second runner-up will get a prize of N300,000, which is equivalent to three hundred thousand Naira.
Important Notice:
  • Any submissions that use artificial intelligence will be deemed ineligible.
  • Offspring and dependents of EFCC workers are ineligible to take part.
