Three professors and a student have been placed on indefinite leave by Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) due to accusations of grade manipulation, extortion, and selling grades to students.
A report by the ESUT College of Medicine (ESUCOM) Disciplinary Committee accused the suspended lecturers, Dr. Ezugwu Samuel Ndubuisi (Anatomy), Dr. Ugwuishi Emeka (Physiology), and Dr. Nwafor Charles (Physiology). The university’s Management Committee subsequently evaluated the findings. ThankGod Chinonso Obi, a student studying Medical Laboratory Science, was also suspended for allegedly aiding and abetting the misbehaviour.

The suspension went into effect on January 23, 2025, while the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee conducted additional investigations, according to a statement from ESUT’s Public Relations Department.
According to reports, the student, in the capacity of a class representative, allegedly worked with the lecturers to defraud students of their money by pretending that they had failed tests or earned poor scores, which forced them to pay for grade changes. After several complaints were made, the scam was discovered.
