Ex-Lawmaker Repays N1,200 Student Loan with N3.1M After 48 Years
The Nigerian Education debt Fund (NELFUND) reported that former federal legislator Lanre Laoshe kindly redeemed a N1,200 student debt from 1976 to 1979 with N3,189,217.00.
NELFUND praised Laoshe’s reimbursement as a show of kindness and honesty, but it didn’t explain why after almost 50 years.
Hon. Laoshe thanked the Federal Government for their financial help 48 years ago and computed the loan’s current worth using past Central Bank of Nigeria currency rates.
NELFUND received a bank draft for the modified amount as a thank you.
In praising Laoshe’s efforts, NELFUND stressed the significance of keeping promises and supporting Nigerian students’ educational ambitions.
