The Federal Government is in advanced negotiations with the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) to resolve their ongoing strike over unpaid wages.
Dr. Yusuf Sununu, former Minister of State for Education, led a meeting with the unions’ Joint Action Committee (JAC) at the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja. He emphasized that discussions are progressing, and the government remains committed to a “holistic approach” aimed at stabilizing the education sector and addressing unresolved concerns. Sununu assured the unions of the government’s dedication to creating a stable academic environment, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda’s objectives for high-quality education.
JAC Chairman Hassan Makolo expressed optimism about the outcome, noting that the strike could be suspended once the unions confirm salary payments for their members. He added that the meeting included discussions on measures to prevent future strikes, aiming to improve cooperation between the unions and the government for a sustainable academic environment.
