At its 28th convocation event, Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, will bestow 192 First-Class degrees in addition to thousands of other academic accolades.
The news was made on Thursday during a press conference held at the university’s Senate building by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello. “This is my fourth consecutive convocation as Vice-Chancellor,” she said.

39 students received a pass, 3,076 received Second-Class Upper Division, 4,397 received Second-Class Lower Division, 990 received Third-Class, and 192 received First-Class honours out of the 8,711 students who graduated with first degrees. Furthermore, 17 students will graduate with unclassified degrees (MBBS/BDS).
With a CGPA of 4.93, Nwosu Isioma Sybil from the Biochemistry Department finishes as the overall top graduating student for the 2023–2024 academic year.
2,235 students will receive degrees for their postgraduate studies, including 639 professional master’s degrees, 1,132 academic master’s degrees, 125 doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees, 37 professional doctoral degrees, and 302 postgraduate diplomas.
Two notable Nigerians will also get honorary doctorates from LASU:
- Former Military Governor of Lagos State and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Chairman Brigadier General Buba Marwa (retd).
- Former Lagos State Deputy Governor Otunba Olufemi Olusegun Pedro, in honour of their services to the university and the country.
Furthermore, long-time LASU professor Joseph Abayomi Olagunju will get a promotion to Distinguished Professor.
