FUTA Scholar Earns 75 Distinctions, Graduates with 4.92 CGPA.

Ederhite Ovie, a Nigerian student, graduated with an outstanding 4.92 CGPA in Industrial and Production Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), demonstrating exceptional academic achievement.

Ovie’s outstanding performance placed him in the top 1% of the more than 5,000 graduates in the Class of 2023–2024. Ovie achieved five perfect GPAs of 5.0 during his tenure at FUTA, with his lowest GPA being 4.74. He also made the Dean’s List for ten straight semesters.

He received numerous academic honours and praise for his commitment and diligence, which paid off as he completed 75 out of 83 courses with distinction.

When Ovie reflected on his journey on LinkedIn, he revealed that his career took an unexpected detour when he enrolled in the university, which ultimately moulded his growth and aspirations. At first, he had dreamed of joining a military college and becoming an Air Force cadet.

During his time at university, Ovie assumed important leadership roles in addition to his academic achievements. In his second year, he was the church fellowship’s librarian; in his third year, he was its academic coordinator; and in his last year, he was its president.

“I am a living testament to the saying, ‘It pays to serve God.’” Ovie also got invaluable industry experience during internships with Chevron Nigeria Limited and Tempo Paper Pulp & Packaging Plc, where he gained practical exposure and insights into the industry. He is a strong believer in the power of faith and service. Ovie devoted time to mentoring and volunteering in addition to his academic endeavours. He was an Active Volunteer with Teens-Launch Africa and CleanUP and the Program Chairperson for the SPE FUTA Chapter.

He sent his sincere appreciation to his fellowship family (ASF), parents, and friends for their steadfast support. He also expressed gratitude to Chevron, the Petroleum Training and Development Fund, Renaissance Support, and his academic advisors for helping to support his path.

Ovie is eager to take on new challenges, make a difference, and encourage others to pursue their goals in the future. “No dream is unachievable with faith and hard work,” he declared.
