Government of Alia Approves Building of 16-Km Road To Put An End To Decade-Long Land Conflict

To put a stop to a long-standing land dispute, the governor of Alia approves the construction of a 16 km road.

The action was taken in response to a meeting he had to explore potential solutions for the ongoing land dispute with members of the Ugondo and Mbaivur villages and an Air Force team.

Governor Alia stated at the meeting on Wednesday in Makurdi, the state capital, that the road will connect the boundaries of Gwer-West and Makurdi, as well as the Gwer-West boundary with the Gboko Local Government Area, to improve accessibility between the areas.

He asserts that settling the conflict will increase the Federal Government’s presence in the state and spur further development.

The Governor expressed gratitude to Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, the Chief of Air Staff, for his efforts in resolving the long-standing conflict and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to seeing that the state receives additional development projects.

The road would act as a permanent border between the Air Force and the native people, he said.

The delegation’s commander, Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command, Nigerian Air Force, Makurdi, AVM F. O. Edahosa, had earlier in his speech mentioned the failure of previous attempts to settle the land issue.

Given how strategically important Benue State is, he claims that the Chief of Air Staff has also expressed interest in seeing the matter through to completion.

He mentioned some of the meetings the governor had had with the leaders of various security services since taking office to express his gratitude for the governor’s unceasing efforts and willingness to maintain peace in the state.

In response, the Chief of Air Staff, Chief Clement Kurugh, and Amir Ishor, the Ter Makurdi representative, expressed gratitude to the governor and the Chief of Air Staff for intervening in the land dispute and expressed their confidence in the governor’s ability to settle the matter and find a long-term solution.
