16 nursing graduates from Sudan International University have been granted automatic jobs by Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, who is asking them to assist the government in rebuilding the state.
The governor gave them their diplomas during a ceremony held in Gusau’s Government House, stressing the value of their contributions to the growth of the state, especially in the field of healthcare.
The graduates were among 66 students supported by the Zamfara State Government who were evacuated from Sudan in 2023 because of the ongoing conflict, according to a statement made by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris. Before the war broke out, sixteen of these final-year nursing students were unable to finish their exams.
Following Governor Lawal’s order, the Zamfara Commissioner for Education arranged with Sudan International University to administer the final exams to the Nigerian students in September 2023. Since then, the university has sent their credentials, which the governor formally presented.
“We have declared a state of emergency in education and are making significant strides to rebuild the sector,” said Governor Lawal, who spoke at the occasion, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to enhancing healthcare and education in Zamfara. Throughout the state, hospitals are being built and renovated, but for these establishments to function well, a trained crew is required.
The Head of Service is responsible for verifying the appointments of the 16 nursing graduates who would all be automatically employed in the Zamfara State Civil Service, according to the governor’s announcement. In addition to congratulating the graduates, he emphasised the significance of their line of work to the continued progress of the state.
